Purrfectly Named
A naming ceremony for the cats who already run your house — inspired by poetry, sparked by a musical, built out of love.
We help cat owners discover the three names every cat deserves: the everyday one you call down the hallway, the grander one that belongs to them alone, and a playful guess at the secret name only they will ever truly know.

Who we are
We are, first and foremost, cat people
Purrfectly Named grew out of a simple truth: cats are not pets you merely label. They are housemates with opinions, rituals, and a dignity that somehow survives knocking a mug off the table for science.
We built this for the people who talk to their cats in full sentences, who already know the difference between a polite chirp and a formal complaint, and who believe a name should feel like it belongs — not like it was chosen from a list while the kettle boiled.
Our love of cats is not a marketing angle. It is the whole reason this exists. Every step of the ceremony — the profile, the summary, the shortlists, the certificate — is designed to take your cat as seriously as they take themselves.
Where it began
From a night at the musical to a poem we couldn't shake
Our path to Purrfectly Named did not start in a library. It started in a theatre — watching Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats, and then wanting to understand what the show was really built on.
That curiosity led us to T. S. Eliot's Old Possum's Book of Practical Cats, and in particular to The Naming of Cats: the playful insistence that naming a cat is serious business, and that one name was never going to be enough.
Eliot's idea — a sensible name for the household, a grander name that belongs to no other cat, and a private name only the cat will ever know — felt instantly true. The musical had brought us to the poems; the poems gave us a ceremony worth building.
Purrfectly Named is our loving, modern answer to that idea: a guided ritual, in our own words — and with deep respect for the work that inspired it.

What we built
A guided ceremony, not a name generator
You tell us about your cat — a short story of their personality, and a photo. We write a summary you can edit until it sounds like them, then walk you through discovering all three names, ending with a keepsake certificate you can download and treasure.
Family name
The practical name you use every day — the one that works when dinner is late and someone is under the sofa.
Cat-world name
The distinctive name your cat goes by among other cats — claimed uniquely across Purrfectly Named so no other cat can share it.
Ineffable name
The secret name that stays just out of reach. We offer a wonderfully close poetic guess — because the real one belongs only to them.
Progress saved. Pause whenever you like. Name every cat you love.
The early steps — profile, personality summary, and family name — are free. When you're ready, a one-time unlock per cat opens the cat-world name, the ineffable near-name, and the certificate. Come back mid-ceremony any time; we pick up exactly where you left off.

Who it's for
Built for people who already take their cats seriously
If you've ever watched your cat stare into the middle distance and thought, they know something I don't— you're in the right place.
New cat parents
You've just brought someone home and want the naming to feel like an occasion — not a rushed decision before the next food shop.
Long-time companions
Your cat already has a family name, but you've always sensed there was more to them. The ceremony finds the rest with affection and a little theatre.
Multi-cat households
Each cat gets their own profile, summary, names, and certificate. Because treating them as interchangeable is, frankly, beneath them.
Your cat already knows their name. Time to catch up.
