Inspired by T. S. Eliot's The Naming of Cats
Naming a cat is serious business — and one name was never going to be enough. There's the name you use around the house, the name the cat-world grants to your cat alone, and a secret one they keep entirely to themselves. Our guided ceremony discovers all three.
Where the idea comes from
Our path started in a theatre — watching Andrew Lloyd Webber's Cats— and led us to T. S. Eliot's poem insisting that every cat needs three names: a sensible one for the household, a grander one that belongs to no other cat alive, and a third so private that only the cat will ever know it.
He was right, of course. Purrfectly Named is the ceremony built from that idea — a loving nod to The Naming of Cats, in our own words, for people who already take their cats seriously.
Who it's for
If you've ever watched your cat stare into the middle distance and thought, they know something I don't— you're in the right place.
You've just brought someone home and want the naming to feel like an occasion — not a rushed decision before the next food shop.
Your cat already has a family name, but you've always sensed there was more to them. The ceremony finds the rest with affection and a little theatre.
Each cat gets their own profile, summary, names, and certificate. Because treating them as interchangeable is, frankly, beneath them.
How it works
You bring the story; Purrfectly Named walks you through the rest — summary, shortlists, and a keepsake certificate. Your progress is saved at every step, so you can pause mid-ceremony and pick up exactly where you left off — for as many cats as you have.

Upload a clear photo of your cat and write a short description of their personality — the greeting at the door, the most annoying habit, who they think they are. Basics like age or breed are optional. Save and come back whenever you like.
Purrfectly Named checks your photo really is a single cat, then studies it alongside your words to write a personality summary. Edit it until it sounds exactly like your cat, then submit — it becomes the creative truth behind every name.
Choose one or more styles — Elegant, Silly, Classic, Nature-inspired, or Non-human. The app suggests 10 names, each with a reason. Shortlist up to six, regenerate once for 10 fresh ideas you can mix with the first batch, add one of your own, and crown a favourite family name.
A single payment of $3.99 for this cat opens the remaining stages — cat-world name, ineffable near-name, and the certificate. You never leave the ceremony page, and nothing is charged before this moment.
The grander, more mysterious name your cat goes by among other cats. Ten suggestions, the same shortlist-and-favourite flow — and the name you confirm is globally unique. No other cat, anywhere, can ever share it.
One name will always stay just out of reach — the secret one your cat keeps entirely to themselves. So we guess, wonderfully: ten strange and lovely near-names with short poetic rationales. Pick the one that feels closest to the truth.
All three names on a storybook keepsake certificate, with their photo and the ceremony date. Download it as a PDF and reopen it from your dashboard any time.

What you take away
The ceremony ends with a certificate that gathers everything in one place — proof, at last, that your cat is exactly who they always suspected they were.
Pricing
No subscription, no bundle, no surprises. Everything up to your cat's family name is free — unlock the rest of the ceremony only if you fall in love with it.
You're only charged when you choose to unlock — never at sign-up, and never automatically. Each cat's ceremony is its own unlock, so a household of three cats is three ceremonies (and three certificates).
